Farm Friends Program
Farmstead provides toddlers the opportunity to experience the farm environment, socialize with other 2 and 3 year olds, and enjoy God’s world.
Preschool Program
We emphasize students’ behavior in working and playing together. We believe in a balance between academics and learning through experience.
Summer Program
Our summer program runs for three weeks immediately following Memorial Day. This is an everyday class from 9-11:30am. This program primarily focuses on science, exploring and open centers.
What we offer
Farmstead preschool offers a morning program, two days per week, for toddlers ages 2 to 3. We offer 3 day per week preschool sessions in the morning and afternoon for 3, 4 and 5 year olds. Additionally we offer a 5 day Pre K program; 2 mornings are added on to our AM or PM 3 day preschool program.
Our philosophy
Children are like little sponges, soaking up the world around them. We believe that a child can become a willing and eager learner when placed in a safe environment, rich with experiences. The Farmstead Preschool provides the perfect opportunity to exercise their developing muscles, language, problem-solving and thinking skills.
Children get a well-rounded experience through the balance of individual choice and activities in small and large groups. The groups include music, story, drama, snack preparation, science, cooperative games, language development, manipulative and constructive toys and much more.
We realize that many parents grew up with access to farm life through relatives, friends or their own farm. They want to give their own children the chance for that same wholesome experience. Thus, our play yard is surrounded by friendly animals that the children can interact with at their choice or when they do daily chores. This helps each child gain a sense of responsibility and ownership of the animals.
Our mission
At Farmstead Preschool we believe in developmentally appropriate practices for young children. We encourage students to explore and stretch their thinking in a unique, hands on, child centered environment. Science is a built in curriculum at Farmstead, as the farm and its animals are part of our classroom. In our multi-age classrooms we strongly believe in nurturing the whole child in a faith based atmosphere in which all children at every ability level are respected. Our approach to learning is guided discovery, facilitated by our passionate and compassionate staff of teachers who closely follow the Iowa Early Learning Standards. This focus is on physical, motor, social, emotional, math, science, social studies, approaches to learning, communication, language, literacy and creative arts development. At Farmstead Preschool social, creative and academic experiences are equally important.
